In a world where the word “genius” gets thrown around to describe taxi-cab apps and online dating algorithms, it’s nice to meet someone who remembers that truly important inventions are about making life better for your community and your world … not just about finding the most efficient way to get a cheeseburger at 3 a.m.

Meet Kelvin Doe, an inspirational 16 year old completely self-taught engineer from Sierra Leone. Kevin manages his own fully-staffed community radio station in Sierra Leone where he broadcasts news and plays music under the moniker ‘DJ Focus.’ The radio station is powered by a generator created from a deteriorating voltage stabilizer, which he found in the trash, while a simple antenna lets his neighborhood listen in.

He is the youngest person in history to be invited to the “Visiting Practitioner’s Program” at MIT and was also a guest speaker at Harvard School of Engineering.

That he wants to go back and share his knowledge and give back to his community is even more incredible!
